We are delighted to announce the publication of A Research Agenda for School-to-Work Transitions, a new book published by Edward Elgar Publishing and created in the context of the OVER SEES Project.
The book examines the opportunities and constraints young people face as they move from education into the labour market. It also traces how scientific understandings of school-to-work transitions have evolved over time, and identifies the many conditions that shape and influence these pathways.
Our Lab contributed the chapter “Territorial asymmetries and youth labour market integration”, written by Athina Avagianou, Kostas Gourzis and Vasiliki Krommyda.
The chapter brings a geographical perspective to the study of school-to-work transitions. It highlights how where young people live (in metropolitan, peripheral, rural or island areas) can shape their chances of entering stable, quality employment. In this way, it adds a spatial dimension to the book’s broader research agenda.
The transition from education to work is one of the most decisive moments in a young person’s life. Delays, precarious first jobs or periods of unemployment can have long-lasting effects on careers, income and wellbeing. Understanding these transitions is therefore essential for designing effective education, training and employment policies.
