The Project’s main purpose is to develop an e-infrastructure for the continuous and up-to-date monitoring of labour markets across the EU regions, which will assist timely research. Specifically, the [e-Reslab Aegean] Observatory comprises two types of analytical tools: (a) an Online Dashboard producing maps and graphs on un/employment, labour flexibilisation, sectoral specializations and dependencies, and workforce skills trends, and (b) two web applications for users to produce graphs and tabulations by filtering which countries and regions they wish to see. The database behind the Observatory is updated on a periodic basis automatically with data from certified sources (e.g., Eurostat, OECD), which in some cases were not available online before. Besides its infrastructure-development aspect, the Research Team conducts extensive research, publishing papers and periodic reports covering timely topics (e.g., the effect of the Covid-19 pandemic on employment). With the above, a threefold contribution is pursued: to provide researchers with crucial data, to inform the public on employment trends, and to assist policymakers with granular and timely insight. As a Project, the [e-ResLab Aegean] Observatory falls under the umbrella of a university-wide Research e-Infrastructure, the “[e-Aegean R&D Network] R&D Network in Aegean Archipelagos: Supporting Regional Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Excellence”.
