The Labour Geography Research Lab at the University of the Aegean invites applications for a Postdoctoral position.
The successful candidate will conduct innovative and original research in the fields of economic and labour geography and critical or radical economic geography, contribute significantly to the objectives of the Lab and support its overall work.
The researcher will collaborate with the academic coordinators of the Labour Geography Research Lab to conduct academic research on the following topics, depending on his/her specific interests and the projects in which he/she will be involved:
The post-doctoral fellow will receive a one-year appointment, renewable for a second year. A full-time availability is strongly preferred.

Main Responsibilities:
– Research (approx. 55% of annual workload):
Conduct original research, focusing on producing high-quality academic papers for peer-reviewed critical geography or social science journals and writing reports, research summaries, or policy briefs.
– Project Management and Communication/Dissemination (20%):
Actively participate in meetings and support the organisation and implementation of up to two research projects funded by EU or other institutions, ensuring that objectives are met and timelines are adhered to.
Disseminate research findings to academic and policy audiences.
Participate in the organisation of events, including webinars and regular conferences.
– Administrative tasks (10%):
Assist with various administrative tasks related to the operation of the lab, including managing project documentation, frequent exchanges with the research committee, lead partner operators, etc.
– Proposal Writing (15%):
Develop and write new research proposals to secure funding for ongoing and future projects, collaborating with team members as needed.
Required Skills:
– Publication record: applicants should have a proven track record of conducting and publishing quantitative, qualitative or mixed methods research, including the use of critical or radical conceptual frameworks to interpret results. Skills in data analysis, calculating composite indices and relevant quantitative techniques are also highly valued.
– Communication skills: Good written and verbal fluency and the ability to communicate in papers, and presentations with multiple research partners and other stakeholders.
– Technical Skills: Ability to use relevant software packages, including GIS software, to support research. Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy, especially in relation to complex research tasks.
– Management and leadership skills: Must have strong management skills and be able to prioritise and deliver results on time. Project management skills, including the ability to set timelines and execute plans to achieve organisational goals.
– Responsibility and good judgement: Must be able to work independently and simultaneously on several different projects, including handling confidential information with good judgement.
– Supervisory responsibilities: The postdoctoral researcher will provide indirect supervision of junior researchers and graduate students working in relevant research fields.
Qualifications:
– A PhD in Critical or Radical Geography, Labour Studies, Sociology of Work or a related field.
– Proven research experience with a record of publication in critical journals.
– Strong organisational skills and the ability to multi-task effectively.
– Excellent written and oral communication skills in English; knowledge of Greek is important but not required.
Location of provided work:
In order to fulfil the above obligations the presence of the postdoctoral researcher in the premises and facilities of the Labour Geography Research Lab at the Department of Geography of the University of the Aegean in Mytilene, Greece, is strongly encouraged though not obligatory. In that case, the postdoctoral researcher will be provided with a workstation (i.e., one PC with accounts for GIS software, SPSS, translation tools and text editing tools) in a shared working space, as well as a station with advanced teleconference capabilities.
