Ο Στέλιος Γκιάλης είναι Καθηγητής και Ακαδημαϊκός Συντονιστής του Ερευνητικού Εργαστηρίου της Γεωγραφίας της Εργασίας (lgrl.aegean.gr), στο Τμήμα Γεωγραφίας του Πανεπιστημίου Αιγαίου. Τα ερευνητικά του ενδιαφέροντα εστιάζουν στη διασύνδεση της Γεωγραφίας της Εργασίας και της Γεωγραφικής Πολιτικής Οικονομίας. Πραγματοποιεί έρευνες σχετικά με τις χωρικότητες της επισφαλούς και ευέλικτης εργασίας στις αστικές και περιφερειακές αγορές εργασίας. Είναι ο επικεφαλής ερευνητής και συντονιστής πολυάριθμων έργων, χρηματοδοτούμενων από την Ευρωπαϊκή Ένωση και λοιπούς φορείς. Πραγματοποίησε την μεταδιδακτορική του έρευνα στον τομέα της Γεωγραφίας της Εργασίας στο Πανεπιστήμιο της Georgia των ΗΠΑ, ενώ υπήρξε και υπότροφος επισκέπτης της DAAD στο Πανεπιστήμιο Von Humboldt του Βερολίνου. Το ερευνητικό του έργο έχει δημοσιευτεί σε πολυάριθμα διεθνή περιοδικά και βιβλία. Έλαβε το βραβείο Jim Lewis 2022 από το περιοδικό European Urban and Regional Studies για εργασία που συνέγραψε μαζί με τους Andrew Herod και Κώστα Γουρζή. ORCID ID: 0000-0001-5204-6009
