Ο Δρ. Κώστας Γουρζής σπούδασε Πολεοδομία και Ανάπτυξη στο Αριστοτέλειο Πανεπιστήμιο Θεσσαλονίκης (BSc) και Οικονομική Γεωγραφία στο Πανεπιστήμιο Radboud Nijmegen της Ολλανδίας (MSc). Το διδακτορικό του απονεμήθηκε από το Τμήμα Γεωγραφίας του Πανεπιστημίου Αιγαίου και επικεντρώθηκε στη σύνδεση μεταξύ του εξευγενισμού και της επισφάλειας στον αγορά εργασίας στη πόλη της Αθήνας. Έχει εργαστεί ως νέος και κύριος ερευνητής σε πολλά διεθνή ερευνητικά προγράμματα που χρηματοδοτούνται από εθνικά και διεθνή ιδρύματα (συμπεριλαμβανομένων των EEA Grants). Έχει δημοσιεύσει σε πολλά διεθνή επιστημονικά περιοδικά υψηλού αντίκτυπου όπως το Antipode (Wiley), το International Journal of Urban and Regional Research (Wiley-Blackwell), European Urban and Regional Studies (SAGE) και Urban Studies (JSTOR). Είναι απόφοιτος του Fulbright και έχει λάβει μακροχρόνια υποτροφία για το διδακτορικό του από το Ίδρυμα Κρατικών Υποτροφιών. Το 2022 του έχει απονεμήθηκε το βραβείο Jim Lewis 2022 για την πιο καινοτόμο ερευνητική εργασία της χρονιάς και το 2015 το Herta Macht Thesis Prize για την υψηλότερη ποιότητα μεταπτυχιακής διατριβής που υποβλήθηκε σε ολλανδικό πανεπιστήμιο στον τομέα των Χωρικών Επιστημών.
